How to Get to El Salto from Monterrey


1. Fly to Monterrey : The Monterrey International Airport, Benito Juárez, connects almost all parts of the world, facilitating your arrival to this key city in Mexico.


2. Transportation from the Airport :


  • Taxi : There are official taxis at the airport, although they can be expensive.


  • Uber : It may be cheaper to take an Uber from the 7-Eleven near the airport. From there, head to El Cercado, where you can take a bus to Laguna de Sánchez that passes through Ciénega de González.


  • Private Transportation Service : Contact Alex Labanda (+52 81 3094 7168) for a direct transfer to Salto.


3. Arrival by Road :


  • From the United States or Monterrey : Use Google Maps to go to Hanuman Café in Ciénega de González. Follow the "Carretera Nacional" and take Highway No. 20 towards Laguna de Sánchez.

  • From Central Mexico : Travel towards Arteaga on Highway No. 57 and take the detour to the right towards the Highway to Los Lirios, following the road to Ciénega de González.

  • Camping : It is possible to camp in designated areas such as La Comarca Camping and El Salto Climbers Campground, which offer facilities such as kitchens and bathrooms.


  • Cabin Rentals : Opt for cabins in the area, (Inside Cienega de Gonzalez) preferably those at Rock Camp, managed by local climbers.

Best Time to Visit El Salto


The best season to climb in El Salto is from October to March, but thanks to its favorable climate at altitude, you can climb all year round.


Food and Restaurants

In Ciénega de González, you'll find basic food options and restaurants like Café Hanuman and La Chozza Pizzas. For more extensive purchases, it is recommended to visit the HEB in El Uro before arriving.


Finding Climbing Buddies

El Salto is an excellent place to travel alone, since you will always find other climbers in popular sectors or at Café Hanuman, a meeting point for those looking for company to climb.


Security

Unfortunately, Mexico is a country that constantly appears in the news for its conflict with drug trafficking. However, there are areas of the country where crime rates are very low. Nuevo León is a safe state, where if you do not get involved in criminal activities, you will not have any problems; and in Ciénega de González it is a very quiet town, so we dare to say that El Salto is safe.
